Myra vs Corodomo: two Vietnamese apps, two ways to teach Chinese
The verdict in one breath
Corodomo teaches through real videos: you watch, shadow the speaker while AI scores your pronunciation, and type out what you hear (dictation). Myra teaches through a structured curriculum: HSK-leveled vocabulary, per-word tone scoring, review through 41 games. In short: Corodomo is a listening-and-speaking gym built on authentic material; Myra is a classroom that builds you up from zero. Complete beginners should start with the classroom; the gym pays off once you have vocabulary to train with.
What is Corodomo?
An app from a Vietnamese team (Da Nang) that teaches many languages — Chinese, Japanese, Korean, English and more — through one consistent method: learning from video. Three main pieces: shadowing (repeat after the speaker, AI scores pronunciation in real time), dictation (listen and type, errors highlighted), and CoroAI conversation practice. For Chinese there's also character lookup and HSK mock exams mirroring the real format with weakness analysis. Web, iOS and Android, with a generous free tier.
The three deciding differences
1. A path vs a library
Corodomo gives you material — videos across topics from podcasts to news — and tools to drill on it; the sequence is yours to choose. Myra gives you a path: what to learn today, what to review, when to level up, scheduled for you along the HSK frame. Beginners usually stall on "what do I study next?" — a path exists to answer that question.
2. Sentence shadowing vs per-word tone scoring
Corodomo's shadowing scores you as you mimic full sentences — great for rhythm and reflexes. Myra scores the tone of every word and names the specific trap (see the tones guide), then cycles that exact tone back into review. One trains the flow; the other fixes each brick.
3. Where vocabulary comes from
In Corodomo, new words come from the videos you watch — look up, save, keep going. In Myra, words arrive by level, linked to their Vietnamese cognates, and rotate through games on a spaced-repetition schedule. Context-driven vs systematic — both right, for different stages.

When to pick which — and when to use both
Pick Corodomo if: you already have foundations (roughly HSK 2–3 up) and want immersion in real Chinese at real speed — or you're close to exam day and want HSK mock tests.
Pick Myra if: you're starting from zero and need a path, correct tones from day one, and the cognate bridge doing the heavy lifting. Or you take a class and want to review exactly what it covered: Myra ingests your class's PDF and builds a full set of games from it — like making your own flashcards, except the machine does it and you get eight games instead of a deck.
Using both is a great all-Vietnamese stack: Myra as the daily backbone, Corodomo as the listening gym from month 3–4 — the same philosophy as our 6-month beginner roadmap. The whole market is ranked in the 7 best apps of 2026.
A structured path from zero, cognate-linked vocabulary, per-word tone scoring, 41 games. The beta is fully free.
